PGA Championship sleeper No. 4: Si Woo Kim (+10000)

For starters, Si Woo Kim is a player who is traditionally a possible value play in bigger tournaments because his inconsistent play tends to increase his odds. That volatility, however, can be played to a bettors advantage as it simply provides more value for when a player who has been hot for much of this year and has some history that suggests he could have a strong week pops up.

The situation at hand for Kim is that he’s heading to the Ocean Course, which is a Pete Dye design. The South Korean has three career wins on the PGA Tour and two have come on courses which Dye had a hand in building. Something about the layout just fits what Kim does.

And for that matter, Kim has been playing some nice golf in the 2020-21 season. He’s ranked 41st in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, which is actually a stronger number than it might appear given his traditional volatility. Moreover, he had a win at The American Express, a top-10 at THE PLAYERS Championship and a top-12 at The Masters (despite putting on Saturday with a 3-wood).

Kim could definitely struggle at times this week at Kiawah but, in the end, the history suggests that he’s a good bet to possibly make a little noise. And at his odds, he’s impossible to ignore.
