Marcus Stroman and Francisco Lindor front and center as benches clear in Mets-Diamondbacks (Video)

The benches of the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks cleared after the fifth inning of Tuesday night’s game.

The New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks began their series on Monday night, which ended in a 6-2 win for the NL East squad. As it turns out, things got very chippy in the second game of their three-contest set.

In the bottom of the fifth-inning, Diamondbacks second baseman Josh Rojas was the final out following an infield popup. oAfter that took place, Rojas began saying something to the Mets players. That caught the attention of Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, who appeared to wave off Rojas, and pitcher Marcus Stroman, who began yelling at Rojas. The escalation caused the benches to clear.

The interaction was entirely verbal, as both teams retreated back to their respective dugouts with no ejections being assessed.

The Mets were up 2-0 at the end of the fifth inning, thanks in part to a two-run homer by first baseman Dominic Smith. In the top of the sixth, Lindor extended New York’s lead with an RBI triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Smith to give them a 4-0 lead.

As the SNY broadcast mentioned, the Diamondbacks are skidding down the league standings, as they lost 14 of their last 15 games entering Tuesday night.
