Aroldis Chapman

Matt Barnes has actually been an outstanding closer for the Red Sox since he took over the job in 2020. He has 12 saves, which is tied for fourth in MLB this season. Boston doesn’t need to worry all that much in save situations. Barnes appears to have it covered.

Let’s be real, though. If a Red Sox fan says they wouldn’t have Aroldis Chapman in a heartbeat, they’re lying.

Chapman has been one of the premier closers in baseball for years. He’s a six-time All-Sar with an impeccable record. In 2019 he was the AL Reliever of the Year.

While 2020 was a strange and limited season, he’s back with a vengeance this year. He has 12 saves and 42 strikeouts while posting an ERA of 0.41.

Chapman’s sinker is as devastating as ever, even if his velocity has dipped. He’s effective and that’s ultimately what matters.

Plus, having Chapman would mean the Yankees wouldn’t have him. That would be the biggest blow of all, leaving New York without one of their most consistent weapons at the end of games.
