Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo could end up being the biggest name moved

The Texas Rangers are among the worst teams in baseball these days. They find themselves in the basement of the AL West standings at 23-38 on the year. Only the flightless Baltimore Orioles have a worse record than them in the Junior Circuit. So with the Rangers going nowhere, it would make all the sense in the world to see what kind of haul they could get for slugger Joey Gallo.

As with Blackmon and Marte, Gallo is entering unrestricted free agency this winter. After seven years in Arlington, it seems as though the 2017 AL All-Star is not for long in Rangers uniform. He might be more of a right fielder at this point of his career, but he does provide the power bat the Yankees are in desperate need of from the left side of the plate. He would look great in pinstripes.

Even if he is only hitting a putrid .207 at the plate, Gallo still has 10 home runs and 26 runs batted in on the season, matching his total for 2020 in a condensed, 60-game season. Perhaps a change of scenery will do him some good? What about that notoriously short porch in right field? Yes, that could be exactly what Gallo could be looking for, as he helps propel the Yankees into October.

As with most swings involving Gallo, trading for him would be a home-run cut taken by the Yankees. This has major boom-or-bust potential, but since he would only be viewed as a rental, it is worth the gamble here. New York has a ton of ground to make up in the AL East standings, so taking a calculated risk or two with a blockbuster trade might tip the scales forever in their favor.
