3 Brooklyn Nets players who won’t be back next season

The Brooklyn Nets are starting their offseason earlier than they expected, and these three players won’t be back next season.

The Brooklyn Nets’ season ended with a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night, in a Game 7 that was an instant classic. The Nets, with their star trio of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden rarely healthy together and Harden and Irving unavailable or limited for multiple games against the Bucks, are left to wonder what might have been with a year of their championship window gone.

The pieces around the Nets’ “Big 3” will look different next season, with multiple unrestricted free agents who might be leaving. That said, there will be veterans who want to chase a ring willing to sign with Brooklyn if there’s a fit to be had. Which is to say, veterans willing to accept a certain role and possibly less money than they can get elsewhere.

As the Nets look to fill the roster around their star trio, these three players won’t be back next season.

3. Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot

Luwawu-Cabarrot played 58 regular season games (seven starts) this year, averaging 6.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game over a shade more than 18 minutes per contest. But he was not in the rotation as time went on, playing more than nine minutes just once in the last 12 games he played (including playoffs). He played in just seven of the Nets’ 12 playoff games, totaling 24 minutes of action.

Luwawu-Cabarrot, a former first-round pick (No. 24 overall in 2016, by the Philadelphia 76ers) is an unrestricted free agent. He wouldn’t be expensive for the Nets to bring back, but he seems more likely to continues his career overseas rather than find an NBA home next season.
