2. Tyler Johnson

Once upon a time (not so long ago), Johnson looked like a promising young player for the Miami Heat. But he has become well-traveled over the last couple seasons, first dealt to the Phoenix Suns in February of 2019 and then signing with the Nets ahead last year’s season restart after the Suns waived him in a salary dump. He re-signed with the Nets last offseason.

Johnson played 39 regular season games for Brooklyn this season, with three starts as he averaged 5.4 points per game on 36.4 percent from beyond the arc. A small role basically became nil in the playoffs though, as he registered just 24 minutes over four games in the series against Milwaukee. Meanwhile, Landry Shamet played 49 minutes total in Game 5 and 6.

Johnson has become a player analytics nuts would love. This season, according to Basketball Reference, over 80 percent of his shot attempts came from 3-point range or within three feet of the basket. In some sense, that’s just the kind of player (at least offensively) who would fit perfectly as a role player for the Nets. And at times, Johnson seemed to fit very nicely with the superstars.

Johnson might be able to find a bigger role elsewhere this offseason. From Brooklyn’s end, he’s a dime-a-dozen player who can be replaced easily.
