3 offseason moves the Utah Jazz need to make
By Scott Rogust
1. Re-sign Mike Conley
Of course, re-signing Mike Conley should be Utah’s top priority this offseason. It is simply a no-brainer move for the front office.
The Jazz made the decision to go after a big-name point guard back in the summer of 2019, and decided the player who fit the bill was Conley, then of the Memphis Grizzlies. His first season in Utah did not necessarily go as expected, where he averaged 14.4 points and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field through 47 games. However, things got better this season for both Conley and the Jazz.
Through 51 regular-season games, Conley posted an average of 16.2 points, 6.0 assists and 1.4 steals a game while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and a career-high 41.2 percent from 3-point range. His play helped contribute to the team scoring an average of 116.4 points per game (fourth-highest in league).
As mentioned in the previous slide, the Jazz’s chances of winning took a massive hit after Conley missed all but one game of the Western Conference semifinals due to a hamstring injury. But based off the success Utah’s offense had this past season, why break up the band? Conley’s asking price will be driven up by the point guard-needy teams in the league, but the Jazz could hold the advantage of being a contending team that can give him his first NBA championship ring.
Do not be surprised if the Jazz get a deal done with Conley this summer.
