2. The defense is vulnerable in big games

Kirby Smart has done wonderful things with Georgia, but he also has some terrible habits. The most concerning of those is how often the Bulldogs’ biggest asset becomes a vulnerability.

Georgia’s defense doesn’t seem to show up in big games.

That may be a tad unfair since many of the offenses that have blown up the Bulldogs in recent years were all-time greats. Still, it’s a problem.

Since 2016, Georgia has allowed more than 35 points in eight games. All but one of those resulted in a loss. Last year, they let Alabama and Florida put up more than 40 on them in their only two losses of the season.

If you want to find the difference between Georgia and the teams that win national titles, look no further. Smart’s defense is frequently unbeatable until it goes up against the elite offenses in college football.

This year’s schedule isn’t loaded with out-of-this-world offenses, but the Bulldogs will run into them eventually if they make it to the SEC title game or CFP. Until Smart and company prove they can come to play in the biggest matchups, there’s no reason to trust them.
