2) The decline of power for Gleyber Torres is concerning for the Yankees

Among the other Yankees on the active roster who could benefit from a minor-league stint is infielder Gleyber Torres.

The struggles for Torres haven’t been as bad as Frazier, but he’s still been inconsistent nonetheless. Torres has seen his numbers go up and down since the start of the season, and he now owns a .242/.324/.313 slash line with three home runs and 25 RBIs in 285 plate appearances.

His decline in power since his 2019 All-Star campaign is concerning. That season saw Torres finish with a .535 slugging percentage with 38 home runs. He finished with a .368 slugging percentage last summer and is currently slugging .313 this season.

It wouldn’t be as big of a worry if he had a high-contact rate or on-base percentage, but Torres has had neither for quite some time. On top of that, Torres’ 11 errors are the third-most among all MLB shortstops.

He’s struggling on both sides of the ball, and he needs to make some sort of adjustment soon. The Yankees don’t have the luxury of waiting for Torres to figure it out at the cost of impacting must-win games. He’s still just 24-years old so there isn’t reason to write him off just yet, but there’s no time to waste in terms of getting back in the playoff race.
