3) Clint Frazier hasn’t lived up to the hype thus far for the Yankees

As mentioned, Gardner holds the team’s second-lowest batting average. The player with the worst on the team? Clint Frazier.

In 217 plate appearances this season, Frazier has struggled while posting a line of .186/.313/.317 with five home runs and 15 RBIs. The 26-year old has also struggled defensively with a (-6) defensive runs saved.

There’s no reason to cut Frazier loose just yet. He still has minor-league options remaining and that’s probably his best bet at the moment. It’ll be difficult to bench him now and expect him to turn things around with limited plate appearances. If he goes down to Triple-A, that will at least give him an opportunity for regular playing time to find some sort of rhythm.

Should the Yankees enter the trade deadline as buyers, there’s a chance some rebuilding teams in the league may consider taking a shot on the former No. 5 overall pick. That being said, no GM in their right mind is willing to give up a quality asset for the recent performances of Frazier, but a restart in the minors will definitely change that.

At 26-years old, the Yankees will need to consider whether or not it’s time to take Frazier out of their future plans if he doesn’t show signs of improvement.
