Lakers: 3 players the Lakers could actually get for Kyle Kuzma and Talen Tucker-Horton
By Josh Hill
3. Kyle Lowry
This might be the most realistic of all Lakers trade scenarios that float around the internet this offseason. Lowry is perpetually in goodbye mode in Toronto, but it feels like this is finally the final wave from him to Raptors fans.
Los Angeles will have stiff competition in landing Lowry in a trade, as the Knicks and 76ers have both been very closely linked to the guard in the recent past. Philly tried to trade for Lowry before the deadline but ended up not making a deal, and the Knicks interest in him goes all the way back to the Andrea Bargnani days in New York.
He’s a Philly kid, so that could also potentially work against the Lakers. But would Lowry rather try to win another championship with Joel Embiid or alongside LeBron James?
There’s also the Ben Simmons could hanging over everything. If the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are rumored to be top suitors for the guard, want to facilitate a three-team deal to land him it could mean including Toronto and sending Lowry to the Sixers as part of the package.
Swap out the Timberwolves for the Blazers and once again Lowry lands in Philly and the Lakers are left in the cold.
There’s one major factor that could swing a Lowry trade the way of the Lakers. Los Angeles would need to erase its line in the sand it drew at the deadline and include Talen Horton-Tucker in the package. Coupling him alongside Kuzma and a pick feels like a better roster-building package for the Raptors than anything they’d get as part of a three-deal deal.
