Patrick Mahomes showed support for track star Sha’Carii Richardson after she was suspended for testing positive for marijuana.
Team USA will be without one of its biggest stars in track and field for the upcoming Olympics. Sha’Carii Richardson was suspended for one month by the United States Anti-Doping Agency for testing positive for THC, a chemical found in marijuana. Her positive result means she won’t run in the 100m in Tokyo, but she could participate in a relay.
The reaction from Richardson’s suspension was forceful. Many people expressed their frustration with the penalty, from common fans to sports media personalities. Perhaps one of the biggest voices that slammed the decision was an NFL superstar.
Patrick Mahomes calls out Olympics over Sha’Carii Richardson’s suspension.
The suspension to Sha’Carii Richardson is an unfortunate moment for her and track and field fans. She burst onto the scene during U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, securing her spot in Tokyo by winning100m with a 10.86 time. She was the favorite to bring home the gold in the event, but now that can’t happen because of her suspension.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes didn’t seem happy about Richardson’s suspension. He blasted the Olympics while showing support for the track star on social media.
“This is so trash man… just let her run,” Mahomes said on Twitter.
Mahomes’ statement is what many people are feeling. Richardson explained in an interview with USA Today that she learned of the death of her biological mother shortly after qualifying for the Olympics, she said there’s no excuse, but that news played a part in her failed drug test.
“Don’t judge me because I am human. I’m you; I just happen to run a little faster,” Richardson said to USA Today.
