3 Atlanta Hawks players who won’t be back next season
By Scott Rogust
Tony Snell, Guard-Forward
Tony Snell is one of the three Hawks players set to hit unrestricted free agency this summer. After signing a four-year, $46 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2017, Snell was traded to the Detroit Pistons in 2019 before being moved to Atlanta for this season.
Snell played in 47 games this season (23 starts), where he missed time due to a right foot injury and a right ankle sprain. In that span, Snell posted an average of 5.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists while posting a field-goal percentage of 51.5 and a three-point percentage of 56.9. The veteran came off the bench in nine playoff games for the Hawks, where he tallied a total of five points (2-for-16 from field), five rebounds, two assists, four turnovers, two steals and one block in 66 minutes.
Considering the production Snell put up through his lone season with the Hawks, it would not be surprising to see the team pivot elsewhere. This is a team that needs to figure out what to do with John Collins, who is a restricted free agent and figures to cash-in this summer. In that case, there are only so many players the team can retain, especially if they match another team’s offer sheet for Collins.
In that case, Snell will likely be the odd man out.
