Jacob deGrom says he may not pitch in the 2021 All Star Game.

To be selected as an MLB All Star is an honor and Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom is well aware of that. But sometimes those honors come at a less than ideal time and that’s why deGrom may not pitch in the big game.

“I’m supposed to throw Sunday. For me, I don’t think it’s smart to go pitch in the All-Star Game,” he said. “I’ve been a little beat up this first half and obviously missed a few starts that I wish I wouldn’t have missed, so I don’t think it makes sense for me to throw in it.”

DeGrom joins the ranks of top National League pitchers including Corbin Burnes (MIL), Yu Darvish (SD), Kevin Gausman (SF), Germán Márquez (COL), Trevor Rogers (MIA), Zack Wheeler (PHI) and Brandon Woodruff (MIL).

Jacob deGrom was one of 8 starting pitchers chosen for 2021 All Star Game roster

Though nothing is official, deGrom will have a decision to make in the coming days if he wants to participate in the 2021 All Star Game or if he’ll take the time to rest and be ready for the Mets when they need him next.
