Urban Meyer is being subpoenaed in the racial discrimination lawsuit surrounding Chris Doyle.

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has been issued a subpoena relating to the hiring and resignation of disgraced former Iowa Hawkeyes strength and conditioning coach Chris Doyle.

Doyle had only been on Meyer’s staff for a day before he resigned from his post. He had been ousted from his long-time role on Kirk Ferentz’s staff in Iowa City. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa is looking for evidence in the $20 million lawsuit filed against Iowa by eight former Hawkeyes players on Nov. 12 of last year. Jacksonville and Meyer plan to cooperate.

What could the U.S. District Court find during Doyle’s brief tenure on Meyer’s Jacksonville staff?

When Meyer initially hired Doyle, it was the first major lesson he had to learn that the NFL and college football worlds are not the same. While you can theoretically employ whoever you want on your college staff if you are the all-powerful head coach, you have to answer to the owner and the fanbase in the NFL. Shahid Khan and the Jaguars did not want dip their toes into this Iowa mess.

Is the U.S. District Court going to find anything pertinent to their case from Meyer or the Jaguars organization? Probably not, but it would be foolish not to look into this matter. While most of their evidence is going to have to come from the university and the greater Iowa City area, maybe it finds some smallest sliver of evidence in this Jacksonville wrinkle? If not, they did their due diligence.

After only one day of employment, the Jaguars are still paying the price for associating with Doyle.
