2. Stay put and draft two prospects

Sure, trading both first-round picks to acquire a difference-making veteran is nice and all for the Warriors, but what if they considered not doing anything ahead of or on the first night of the NBA Draft? Or what if they can’t find a trade? In that case, the Warriors could just stay put and use both first-rounders to bring in potential contributors to their squad.

The Warriors are facing the likelihood of losing forward Kelly Oubre Jr., whom they acquired last offseason to replace Thompson, to free agency. With there being many teams expected to make a run at Oubre, the Warriors could be out of contention for his services. Plus, it would never hurt for the Dubs to bring in extra guards in case they were to lose either Stephen Curry or Thompson to injury next season.

Some names the Warriors could look at with the seventh overall pick include Tennessee guard Keon Johnson, Duke forward Jalen Johnson and Baylor guard Davion Mitchell. For No. 14, the likes of Florida State forward Scottie Barnes, Texas forward Kai Jones and Arkansas guard Moses Moody could be available for them. Standing pat could greatly benefit the Warriors in the long run, even if the focus is on the team’s short-term title window.
