Franklyn Kilome

Franklyn Kilome has been on the IL for much of the season, but he returned to action for Syracuse at the end of July.

Now that he’s back, the Mets could look at him as a reliever.

He saw some major league action in 2020, though it wasn’t anything to write home about. He posted an ERA of 11.12 after a couple of disastrous appearances. He did get a three-inning save at one point.

Since then, it appears the team may be looking at him more as a reliever than a starter, allowing him to ride his stuff in shorter bursts.

The Mets have their injury woes with the pitching staff at the moment. If nothing else, Kilome could be an arm to throw out there as a reliever.

Josh Walker

If New York wanted a lefty, there’s one sitting in Triple-A in Josh Walker.

The 26-year-old has made two starts for Syracuse since he was called up from Binghamton. On July 30, he went eight scoreless innings while holding a no-hit bid.

Walker projects as a reliever, so any call-up would likely involve that role. As with Kilome, it could come to that.

Mets fans definitely don’t want to see more of Jerad Eickhoff, so options from the prospects list like Walker sound like a better option.

The bullpen isn’t inspiring much confidence either. Maybe it’s time to give some new faces a chance to show what they’ve got.
