Alfonzo McKinnie has had his best NBA success with the Golden State Warriors

Again, this is not a move that will really entice Warriors fans, but keep in mind that Alfonzo McKinnie did play his best basketball in Golden State a few years ago. The small forward out of Green Bay spent last season as a member of the Pacific Division rival Los Angeles Lakers, where he averaged 3.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game in 6.6 minutes per contest over 39 games.

McKinnie played for Golden State during the 2018-19 NBA season. He appeared in 72 games for the Warriors that year, making five starts. McKinnie averaged career-highs in points (4.7) and rebounds per game (3.4) during his time in Golden State. Though he got a bit more run a year later playing for the non-contending Cleveland Cavaliers, McKinnie was at his NBA apex in Golden State.

As with Bell, this signing would be about adding a deep bench player who knows exactly what Kerr wants to do on both ends of the floor. Even better, McKinnie’s addition makes the division rival Lakers worse in the process. Keep in mind that Golden State was the fourth best team in a deep Pacific Division a year ago. They have to find a way to get back on top in their own division first.

While bringing back McKinnie could help raise this team’s floor, it does not really move the needle.
