Former NFL GM thinks Aaron Rodgers acting as a GM will be a nightmare for Packers
By John Buhler
One former NFL general manager is not a fan of Aaron Rodgers meddling with the Green Bay Packers front office.
Aaron Rodgers might be the best player on the Green Bay Packers, but he is not the team’s general manager.
Rodgers forcing the Packers’ hand to trade for his former teammate in wide receiver Randall Cobb of the Houston Texans is one thing, but trying to bring back outside linebacker Clay Matthews who has spent a year out of football is another. These sort of front-office requests by Rodgers have former NFL general manager Randy Mueller skeptical about this working out well in the long run.
Here is what Mueller tweeted Monday morning about the Packers’ potential “nightmare” brewing.

Former NFL GM thinks GM Aaron Rodgers will be a Packers nightmare
Though Rodgers will play the 2021 NFL season in Green Bay, his time with the franchise is coming to an end. A divorce is inevitable, and this highly chaotic offseason between Rodgers and the front office is undeniable proof of this. Should Green Bay want to get back to the Super Bowl for the first time in over a decade, both parties need to stay in their respective lanes and just do their jobs.
If Rodgers keeps playing at an MVP level, head coach Matt LaFleur guides his team to another 13 regular-season wins and general manager Brian Gutekunst finds the right pieces that fit for this year’s team, Green Bay can absolutely win the NFC. Unfortunately, divisiveness will knock Green Bay down a peg in the NFC. Few teams can beat Green Bay, but the Packers are one of them.
Now that the preseason is underway, the Packers need to be full steam ahead on winning it all.
