Braves: Predicting Atlanta’s postseason starting rotation
By John Buhler
Ian Anderson needs to get healthy, but he showed he is built for the postseason
Once Ian Anderson comes back from the IL, he should have enough time to get a few starts under his belt before the postseason. Last year saw the talented right-hander thrive in October, as the Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers struggled to hit his dominating changeup. If he is the Braves’ No. 3 starter in the postseason, then Atlanta is in fantastic shape.
Max Fried is a frontline starter, but is best served as a No. 2 in the postseason
One day very soon, Max Fried will be the Braves’ frontline starter in October. However, he may be one season away from doing that. While he has been great this season, and last, as well as at times in October a season ago, he is best served as being the Braves’ No. 2 starter for a World Series run this year. He needs a bit more big-game experience to become Atlanta’s October ace.
The Braves acquired Charlie Morton to serve as the ace for a World Series run
This is really simple. The Braves signed Charlie Morton in free agency with the hopes he could be a top-of-the-rotation starter for them this year, as well as be the ace they need to get over the top in October. The 37-year-old right-hander has ample postseason starting experience from his days with the Houston Astros and with the defending American League champion Tampa Bay Rays.
Thankfully, what was one a glaring weakness for the Braves is now an area of strength for them.
