Jameis Winston’s track record

Jameis Winston has a higher ceiling as a passer than Taysom Hill, but his track record also leaves plenty to be desired.

In his last season as a starter with Tampa Bay, Winston threw 30 interceptions. His decision-making was awful, despite solid production elsewhere.

It’s all well and good throwing for 5,000 yards, but your team goes 7-9 when you lead the league in turnovers. Winston’s supremacy in that category wasn’t small either. He had 12 more turnovers than any other quarterback in the NFL.

Protecting the football has to be the top priority for a quarterback. Winston hasn’t found a way to throw single-digit interceptions in his career so far.

Perhaps Sean Payton and his staff are miracle workers who could smooth out that side of his game, but Winston is entering his seventh season in the NFL. You know what you’re getting on that front.

Hill isn’t perfect either, but he’s less of a liability.

When it comes down to it, neither of these quarterbacks is likely to lead the Saints to a Super Bowl. The Saints have to go with the guy who gives them the best chance to win on a week-to-week basis by minimizing mistakes. Hill has that edge.
