4. Atlanta Falcons

Matt Ryan is still a quality starting quarterback, but his days as the unquestioned starter in Atlanta are numbered. The Falcons front office considered drafting his replacement in last year’s draft but elected to give Ryan one more go instead.

Unless the Falcons somehow secure a surprising playoff berth in 2021, they are a franchise poised to hit the reset button in the offseason. Trading Julio Jones to the Titans was a clear signal that Atlanta is ready to pivot. Making a big change at quarterback is the next logical step for the NFC South franchise.

Ryan’s lack of mobility has been a limiting factor for the Falcons offense during his career. Drafting a more mobile option like Rattler could unlock things for Atlanta on the outside. The team will need to draft more weapons around him to make him a success, but that’s a normal problem for teams trying to build around a young quarterback.

The real question for the Falcons is whether or not they will finish with a bad enough record to draft a premium prospect like Rattler. The team may not be quite bad enough to land the required pick in the top 3. Falcons fans might be forced to settle on an inferior quarterback prospect due to their team’s respectability.
