2. Denver Broncos

The Broncos tried to thread the quarterback needle by nabbing Drew Lock in Round 2 of the 2019 Draft. That dream died when Lock lost the battle to be Denver’s starting quarterback to veteran Teddy Bridgewater last week.

There’s a reason why Carolina let Bridgewater go without a second thought. He’s nothing more than a stopgap at the game’s most important position. He might lead the Broncos to respectability in 2021, but he won’t emerge as the team’s long-term answer.

Denver has the defensive bones in place to be a big-time playoff team, but they need to significantly upgrade their scoring if they want to hang with the competition inside their own division. Rattler doesn’t have the ceiling of a superstar like Patrick Mahomes, but he could give Denver their own version of Justin Herbert.

Vic Fangio’s defense might be too good to allow the Broncos to land Rattler, but it’s easy to envision a scenario where this team’s season goes off the rails. If that happens, Rattler could be headed to the Mile High City as the team’s offensive messiah.
