5 players the Broncos need to play well to beat Giants

4. Kyle Fuller, CB
Denver’s secondary underwent an overhaul at the start of the 2021 league year. They signed veteran Ronald Darby and they drafted Pat Surtain II with their first-round selection. But the one cornerback that needs to show out on Sunday is Kyle Fuller.
At the start of the league year, Fuller was a member of the Chicago Bears. But with the team strapped for cap space, they opted to release Fuller from his contract. That might as well have been a gift for head coach Vic Fangio, who used to work with Fuller during his time as Bears defensive coordinator. Hence why the Broncos jumped at the opportunity to sign Fuller to a $9.5 million deal for the 2021 season.
Through 16 games last year, Fuller posted 65 combined tackles, eight defended passes and one interception. In coverage, Fuller allowed 46 completions for 527 yards and five touchdowns on 83 targets, per Pro Football Reference.
With Fuller at the top of the cornerback depth chart, he will likely need to target New York’s big free agency signing, Kenny Golladay. If Fuller can make Golladay a non-factor, the Giants will be in for a rough time. The team is unlikely to have tight end Evan Engram available for Week 1 due to a calf injury suffered at the end of the preseason, meaning Jones will have to target the likes of Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton heavily throughout the game.
If Fuller can shut down New York’s top pass catching option, the Broncos could coast to a victory.
