5 players the Broncos need to play well to beat Giants

If the Denver Broncos want to leave the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area with a win, they need these five players to perform well against the Giants on Sunday.

The Denver Broncos came off an underwhelming 2020 campaign in which they finished last in the AFC West. This offseason, the team did make additions on both sides of the ball, specifically at cornerback and quarterback. Now, they are hoping that those areas of need are addressed so they can make a run for the division crown.

Denver faces their first test this upcoming Sunday in a road matchup against the New York Giants. The Giants were one of the more active teams since the start of the new league year, but they are very much a question mark entering the 2021 season. This could definitely work in the favor of the Broncos.

If the Broncos want to defeat the Giants in Week 1, they will need these five players to perform well.

5. Garett Bolles, LT

For the offense to thrive, the Broncos will need the offensive line to do their part. For the quarterback to succeed, they will need their blindside tackle to block all pressure from the opposition. Hence why left tackle Garett Bolles needs to have a solid showing on Sunday.

Bolles put up arguably the best year of his entire career last season. The 2017 first-round selection played in a grand total of 1,015 snaps last season, and he did not allow a single sack, per Pro Football Focus. That is truly impressive. That is why the Broncos comfortably signed the left tackle to a four-year, $68 million contract extension last December.

In his first game, Bolles will face a Giants defense that did carry the team into NFC East contention last year. The front seven is relatively the same, minus Dalvin Tomlinson. New York, coordinated by Patrick Graham, took many by surprise last season. Bolles will need to combat the likes of Dexter Lawrence or Lorenzo Carter coming off the edge to keep quarterback Teddy Bridgewater upright in the pocket. If he does so, the Broncos offense should thrive in Week 1.
