The Sept. 11 Triller Fight Club event between Evander Holyfield vs. Vitor Belfort is getting a lot of attention for the inclusion of Donald Trump.

The Saturday, Sept. 11 Triller Fight Club event is jarring for several reasons. Having 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield fighting in a professional boxing match is one reason. The other is having the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, providing alternate fight commentary.

Trump is one of the most controversial political figures in American history, and having him providing live fight play-by-play is a shock to the system. Triller dropped the news in a Sept. 7 press release with comments from President Trump.

“I love great fighters and great fights,” said Trump in the press release. “I look forward to seeing both this Saturday night and sharing my thoughts ringside. You won’t want to miss this special event.”

If Triller was looking for added attention, they found it.

Trump also called into the Thursday, Sept. 8 Holyfield vs. Belfort press conference, where he stated that he would easily knock out current President Joe Biden if given the opportunity (h/t TMZ).

He’ll be on call with his son Donald Trump Jr. for an added fee. Trump is the master of grabbing headlines, so it’s safe to assume that’s why Triller sought out his services. Who thought up the idea and how they made it a reality is still a mystery.

Despite the shocking news that President Donald Trump would provide commentary for Triller Fight Club, Triller didn’t want to address his involvement

FanSided tried to discuss the matter with Triller head Ryan Kavanaugh, but he didn’t want to talk much about the former president.

“We’re not really commenting on Donald,” Kavanaugh told FanSided. “This fight has had a production of its own and a production team on its own. And its own producers and its own people. They look at, you know, nothing to do with politics, but they just looked at what’s best for the fight? And what makes sense. And what’s going to sell tickets and what’s gonna sell pay per views, and what does the world want to see. And so that crew obviously decides everything from, you know, who’s commentating to what music acts. That’s not anybody at triller, per se. That’s really a fight production crew.

“And so I can’t say that Triller can take any credit for it. I’d say that we give them creative freedom to run the events the way that they think are best. They’ve done, obviously, tons of events. They decided to do that. And we always support their creative decisions.”

Interestingly, Kavanaugh and Triller are reluctant to discuss Trump, considering that they reportedly paid him millions, according to a TMZ report. Nigel Lythgoe is directing the event, but it’s unclear who had the authority to greenlight Trump’s involvement.

FanSided attempted to get more clarity on Trump’s involvement, but Kavanaugh and Triller wouldn’t comment further on his involvement.

It’s hard to think of a scenario where a former U.S. president would hurt the credibility of an event, but this might be one of those moments.
