Mike Vrabel will be totally exposed without Arthur Smith on his coaching staff

If you had your doubts about the Tennessee Titans being the NFL’s biggest regression candidate, just look at what the Arizona Cardinals did to them. They are every bit a finesse team under Kliff Kingsbury, but they went out and punched Tennessee in the mouth. Mike Vrabel is already being exposed in his first game without Smith as his offensive coordinator. They looked dreadful Sunday.

Because the AFC South is probably terrible, Tennessee still has a chance to repeat as AFC South champions. However, getting pushed around by a team coached by a guy who got fired from his alma mater because he could not go to bowl games with Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback is an awful look. Of all the outcomes to happen in the early window, this one was the most shocking.

I am not saying Vrabel is starting to give off Dan Quinn meathead vibes from Nashville like the former Falcons head coach did after losing Kyle Shanahan to the San Francisco 49ers, but I am also not saying that. Keep in mind that Vrabel is a defensive-minded head coach, and his defense just gave up 38 points at home to a team that kicked off at 10:00 a.m. PT. This was beyond rough.

Vrabel has earned clout over the last two years, but he could lose all of it with a bad 2021 season.
