Ronaldo effect: Paul Pogba looks to sign contract extension at Manchester United
Paul Pogba is reportedly leaning towards staying at Manchester United after Cristiano Ronaldo’s amazing return for the club this past Saturday.
Call it the Ronaldo effect.
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is leaning towards staying at Old Trafford following Cristiano Ronaldo’s amazing return at Manchester United.
Ronaldo scored twice on Saturday as Manchester United trounced Newcastle 4-1. The victory, according to The Atheltic, has convinced the French midfielder that he should prolong his stay at the Premier League club.
Ronaldo’s return, along with the recent arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, makes Man United among the favorites for the league title as well as the Champions League.
“Such optimism will inevitably extend to the players and, in a potentially major development, The Athletic has learnt that Saturday had a significant bearing on Pogba’s thinking over his future,” the website reported on Monday.
Manchester United can’t afford to let Paul Pogba leave club
Pogba, 28, who won the World Cup with France in 1998, is among one of the best midfielders in the world. He had two assists this past Saturday and currently leads the Premier League with seven in just four games.
The Frenchman is in his final year of contract at Manchester United and could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season should the English club fail to prolong his contract.
Interest in Pogba has come from PSG and Real Madrid, but Sky Sports reported last month that he was unlikely to sign a new contract during the summer transfer window but had not ruled out an extension at some point.
Pogba first signed with Man United in 2011, then moved to Juventus after one season there. He has been a member of Man United since 2016.
