3. Amari Cooper won’t be Dallas’ top receiver

Cooper torched the Tampa Bay secondary to the tune of 13 catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns in the opener. That will make him a huge priority for the Chargers’ secondary heading into this game.

Specifically, it means that Cooper is the guy who’s going to see a lot of Derwin James in this matchup. Being double-teamed by arguably the top safety in the NFL is going to reduce Cooper’s ability to put up stats on Sunday.

The good news for Dallas is that they have more than enough quality receiving options to hurt Los Angeles’ defense without Cooper putting up big-time stats. CeeDee Lamb is more than capable of picking up that slack. Look for the second-year pro to lead the Cowboys in catches and yards receiving in this one.

That doesn’t mean the Cowboys won’t miss the vertical threat that Cooper can provide. Cutting Dak Prescott’s outside options in half will have a negative impact on Dallas’ offensive efficiency. Stopping Cooper won’t completely stifle Dallas, but it’s a worthy goal for the Chargers nonetheless.
