Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer publicly addressed the rumors of his interest in the USC football job opened with the firing of Clay Helton.

Despite the fact that his name is floating around with reports and rumors surrounding the USC head coaching opening, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer doesn’t appear to have any interest in the job.

In fact, Meyer flat out denied the possibility of him heading to USC, saying there is “no chance” he was interested and is focused on staying with the Jaguars and “building an organization.”

Meyer isn’t the only coach to state that he’s not interested in the job. Luke Fickell, another candidate for the gig and the head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats, spoke about the opening on Tuesday denied any interest in leading the Trojans.

USC football: Urban Meyer refutes interest in USC job

Of course, him saying he isn’t interested doesn’t totally eliminate the possibility of Meyer heading to USC. In 2006, while he was the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Nick Saban flat out said he wouldn’t end up at Alabama. And, well, in 2007 he was leading the Crimson Tide. Things happen.

There are some who expect to see Meyer coaching at the college level again at some point in the future. The timing of the USC job opening up would provide a great avenue for Meyer to return if he were interested.

That said, just because he may end up in college football once more doesn’t mean he wants to be the head coach at USC. We’ll have to wait and see how this one unfolds.
