If things don’t work out with the Jacksonville Jaguars, will Urban Meyer decide to leave the NFL in favor of coaching college football once more?

Things are already off to a bit of an awkward start for Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer. A college football legend, Meyer has won championships with the Florida Gators and Ohio State Buckeyes.

But the NFL is a different game and Meyer is trying to lead one of the worst franchises in the league. It’s still early, but so far all we’ve seen is an odd situation involving Tim Tebow, who was quickly released and an embarrassing double-digit loss for Jacksonville at the hands of the ever dysfunctional Houston Texans.

That’s hardly the sort of start that Meyer likely wanted as he transitioned to the pro football coaching ranks.

He’s clearly got plenty of work to do as he tries to figure out how to win with Jacksonville. But, should things not work out for Meyer and the Jaguars, it appears as if some believe he’d be happy to pivot back to coaching college football.

According to Michael Lombardi, he’s received word from sources that indicate “Meyer might love going back to college.”

Will Urban Meyer make the move back to coaching in the college ranks?

After the USC Trojans fired Clay Helton, Meyer’s name was bound to be attached to that job opening. It was only a matter of time. USC is a premier coaching destination and a college football blue blood that’s been down on its luck as of late.

That said, it’s possible the Trojans could choose someone else to lead their program before Meyer even has a shot to throw his name in the hat. Luke Fickell, Bob Stoops and so many others could be in the running for this opening.

Meyer is known for winning at every stop he’s made as a college football coach. From Bowling Green to Utah to Florida to Ohio State, Meyer has won just about everywhere. While he may or may not end up in Los Angeles, it’s safe to say that a return to college coaching could lead to a return to winning for Meyer.
