Who could the Packers sign to replace Kevin King?
By Scott Rogust
Green Bay Packers cornerback Kevin King had a rough night against the Detroit Lions on Monday.
Green Bay Packers fans were not exactly thrilled upon hearing that the team brought back cornerback Kevin King on a one-year contract, as he struggled during last year’s NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As it turns out, 2021 was no better for King.
On Monday night, King faced off against the rival Detroit Lions, who are not exactly considered contenders for the NFC North division. On the very first drive, King surrendered a huge 46-yard reception to Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus. That set up Cephus’ touchdown reception to give Detroit the early 7-0 lead.
That has many Packers fans wondering just who the team can bring in to help bolster their cornerback depth. We have you covered on that.
Which cornerbacks are available in free agency?
Below are some of the top cornerbacks available for the Packers if they do choose to sign one, courtesy of NFL Trade Rumors:
- Richard Sherman
- Darqueze Dennard
- Quinton Dunbar
- Gareon Conley
- D.J. Hayden
- Prince Amukamara
Out of the names listed above, the one that Packers fans would be most interested is Sherman. After spending the past three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Sherman hit unrestricted free agency, in which he still remains available. But a recent report from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero noted that multiple teams have contacted Sherman, three of them being the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks and the 49ers.
Again, this is if the Packers decide to sign an outside option. Or, you know, they could promote rookie Eric Stokes to start over King. That is probably the easiest option.
