Did Shohei Ohtani just open the door to leave the Angels?

Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani makes it clear that he wants to win following a 5-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners. 

The Los Angeles Angels (74-82) secured one thing on Sunday night, and it wasn’t a playoff berth. Instead, the Angels are wrapping up the year with their sixth straight losing season. At least the team has Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, right? Well, Los Angeles has Shohei Ohtanti for now, at least.

During the postgame presser, Ohtani showed his love for the Angels organization. What does he love more than the team and their fans? Winning.

Shohei Ohtani’s future with the Los Angeles Angels isn’t promising

The chances of Ohtani signing a contract extension with Los Angeles just dropped significantly.

It could be two years before the Angels bid their goodbyes to Ohtani, or it could be sooner if he requests a trade. It hasn’t escalated to that by any means, but if the front office doesn’t act fast, they could lose one of their top players.

Shohei signed a two-year, $8.5 million contract with Los Angeles back in February. He’s been in the league since 2018 and has dazzled fans with his performance on the mound and at the plate. Ohtani became the first player to compete in the Home Run Derby and earn a win in the All-Star Game in MLB history.

Ohtani has captured the attention of fans across the league, but especially means a lot to the ones in Anaheim. He’s not a player that the franchise wants to let slip through their fingers and there’s one way to fix that – to win.

Could next year be a winning season for the Angels? For the sake of the AL MVP favorite Shohei Ohtani, we hope so.
