The Boston Red Sox lost again on Tuesday night, this time to the Baltimore Orioles. Chris Sale wasn’t happy after the fact.
The Red Sox are faltering when they need a late-season surge. Boston has fallen out of the first Wild Card spot, and as of this writing would be heading to the Bronx to face the Yankees in a winner-take-all scenario.
Boston would rather be hosting that game, and they’re lucky New York is doing them a favor by beating Toronto on Tuesday.
Chris Sale didn’t start in the Yankees series — which ended in a New York sweep — drawing some ire from Sox faithful. He was called upon against the O’s on Tuesday, and ultimately was pulled after giving up a game-tying home run to Ryan Mountcastle. He threw a fit on the mound after the fact.
Red Sox: Chris Sale blew his chance to end skid
Both of Boston’s best pitchers — Nathan Eovaldi and Sale — lost their last time out. The Red Sox pitching staff isn’t necessarily deep, so they need the top-tier to deliver when called upon. Sale knows he screwed up, and lamented on that after the fact in his postgame comments.
Chris Sale: "Yeah, that fucking sucked."

Fair enough.
You can’t say this start didn’t matter to Sale, as he clearly understood the gravity of the moment. Hopefully for his sake, he’ll have a chance at redemption.
Boston’s lineup didn’t do the pitching staff any favors, however, considering they managed just two runs against a woefully bad Orioles rotation.
Overall, this team just has to be better.
