2. LSU quarterback Max Johnson throws for four touchdowns against Auburn’s defense

Not a lot has been going right for LSU’s offense through the first four weeks of the season, but the Tigers have been able to take advantage of quarterback Max Johnson’s ability to sling the ball around. While Johnson isn’t the best quarterback in the SEC, he has been very productive and is averaging 3.8 touchdown passes per game this year.

Johnson is the primary offensive threat LSU has this season and the Tigers will certainly need him to throw the ball a lot against Auburn.

It’s still early in the season and it’s clear that Auburn’s defense hasn’t been tested a ton so far. Harsin’s Tigers also haven’t a ton of dangerous passing attacks up to this point. When Auburn squared off against Penn State, Sean Clifford was effortlessly able to complete a high percentage of passes as the Nittany Lions went on to win 28-20.

In that game, Clifford went for 28-of-32 and threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns while he threw an interception.

LSU isn’t as good as Penn State this season and there’s a good chance that Johnson doesn’t have anywhere near that high of a completion percentage this Saturday. Through the first four games of the year, Johnson has completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 1,143 yards and 15 touchdowns while also throwing three interceptions.

1. Auburn wins in Death Valley and increases the temp on Ed Orgeron’s hot seat

Both of these teams have some serious flaws and have plenty of work to do. Both of these teams feature coaches who are facing some pressure, though it’s to very different degrees. Both teams are talented and have the potential to have decent seasons.

The Auburn Tigers need to get their questions on offense answered and they need to do that sooner rather than later. Will Harsin trust Bo Nix to be able to lead the Tigers offense or will he turn to T.J. Finley should Nix start to struggle?

Looking in at LSU’s issues, While the LSU Tigers have seemed solid on defense for the most part up to this point, that wasn’t the case against UCLA. LSU’s got issues on defense and was throttled by the Bruins as they racked up 483 yards and 38 points.

Recently, against Mississippi State, the Bulldogs were also able to gash LSU’s defense for a ton of yards. While the Tigers still came out on top and kept MSU from getting into the end zone consistently as the Bulldogs made costly mistakes, LSU gave up 486 yards to Mississippi State. That should be a red flag for LSU’s coaching staff and a possible point of concern for Tigers fans.

Auburn will have opportunities to score as long as whoever is leading the Tigers offense is able to efficiently distribute the ball and make a handful of big plays happen. With the talent Auburn has on offense, this team should be able to make most defenses sweat. But we’ve seen that Harsin’s team is still working through some issues.

When considering the potential that both teams have on offense, it is conceivable that this game could get fairly high scoring. That said, Auburn seems to be the more well-rounded team. The Auburn Tigers should be able to win this game by a score of 45-31.
