Bryan Harsin is seeking his first SEC win as the head coach of the Auburn Tigers as his team heads to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers.

Auburn fans may not be thrilled about how this season has started, especially looking at the loss to Penn State and the struggles at home against Georgia State. But this is Bryan Harsin’s first season and even though this fanbase generally has lofty expectations, it’s impossible to accurately judge him solely off of the first four games of this season.

Harsin will have a huge opportunity to win fans over as the Tigers travel to Baton Rouge for their annual game with LSU.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron is more than familiar with a fanbase that has lofty expectations. While Harsin is in his first season with his team of Tigers, Orgeron has been leading his team for a few years now and is sitting on a hot seat. LSU fans have been frustrated with how their Tigers have looked dating back to the start of last season and there’s pressure on Orgeron to win plenty of games this year.

A win would be great for Harsin as Auburn looks to build momentum with its new head coach, but a loss wouldn’t derail things for him or his Tigers. A win for Orgeron would help make this season something LSU fans could be proud of, but a loss would continue to make things uncomfortable for LSU’s coaching staff.

Here are three bold predictions as the Auburn Tigers get set to welcome the LSU Tigers to town.

3. Auburn’s offense gets back on track and scores 40+ points against LSU

During the first two weeks of the 2021 season, Auburn’s offense got off to an incredible start, scorching Akron and Alabama State for a combined 122 points. Predictably, the Tigers’ offense cooled a bit as they went to Penn State and only put up 20 points in a loss, but things were surprising as Auburn struggled to drive the ball against Georgia State.

There are questions about who should start at quarterback for Auburn given how Bo Nix has struggled and there are questions about whether or not this team can consistently have a high-scoring offense. This game against LSU should help answer those questions.

Sure, LSU’s defense is holding folks to 22.8 points per game and opponents are only managing to rack up 348.8 total yards of offense per game, but those stats are improved considerably by the fact that the Tigers have been fortunate enough to play McNeese State and Central Michigan.

LSU has shown it is vulnerable against offenses with a pulse and some talent. UCLA and Mississippi State managed to combine for 969 yards and 63 points against Orgeron’s Tigers. In terms of quality and talent, Auburn, in theory, is far more similar to UCLA and Mississippi State than it is to Central Michigan and McNeese State.

Expect Auburn’s offense to work past some flaws and put up some points as it faces LSU this weekend.
