Mike Shildt reveals Cardinals Wild Card game starter
With the St. Louis. Cardinals clinching an NL Wild Card spot earlier this week, skipper Mike Schildt has announced that Adam Wainwright will be getting the starting nod.
What an amazing run it has been for the St. Louis Cardinals. While the team may have lost on Wednesday, they won 17 straight games before that defeat to Milwaukee. Thanks to that brilliant run, the Cards locked in an NL Wild Card spot.
Although we don’t know yet if they’ll be taking on the Dodgers or Giants in the Wild Card Game, we do know who will be taking the bump. On Thursday, skipper Mike Shildt announced that Adam Wainwright will be getting the start.
Adam Wainwright will start the Wild Card Game for the St. Louis Cardinals next week
It shouldn’t come as a massive surprise that Shildt is sending out Wainwright for this contest, as the veteran hurler has been nothing short of outstanding this season. This campaign, Wainwright holds a 17-7 record with a 3.05 ERA and 174 strikeouts.
Now, though, Wainwright will be given the difficult task of trying to silence either the LA or San Francisco batters. The two clubs are in the middle of a tight race for the NL West title. As of this writing, the Giants hold a two-game lead over the Dodgers. Both teams have been superb this year, with San Francisco at 104-54 and Los Angeles 102-56.
Regardless of who the Cardinals end up facing, Wainwright will be ready to rock. Though the Dodgers/Giants will be favorites to win the meeting, the Cardinals will hope to stun plenty of folks.
