3 Urban Meyer replacements the Jaguars should already be considering
2. Kellen Moore, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator
Moore stepped out of a Cowboys’ uniform and practically right onto the sideline as quarterbacks coach in 2018. He’s now in his third season as the offensive coordinator, as head coach Mike McCarthy has notably surrendered play-calling duties to him over the last two seasons after saying he never do so when he was the Packers’ head coach.
The winningest quarterback in FBS history, with 50 wins as Boise State’s signal caller from 2008-2011, Moore is 33 years old with having played the position as a good mark on his resume. With McCarthy’s tendency to mismanage the clock continuing this year, it’s easy to speculate about Moore replacing him as Cowbiys’ head coach as soon as next year.
The Cowboys led the league in total offense in 2019. Last year, with Dak Prescott out 11 games, they still finished 14th with Andy Dalton, Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert filling in under center. Through Week 3 this year, they are back up to fifth in total offense.
Moore was a candidate for the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coaching job after last season, and he nearly took the job at his alma mater after Bryan Harsin left for Auburn. The Cowboys are surely preparing for when he’ll be gone.
It’s only a matter of time before Moore becomes an NFL head coach. The Jaguars should easily be among the teams eyeing him for their potential 2022 opening.
