Rays pathetic attendance offers opportunity for Red Sox and Yankees fans
A plethora of Tampa Bay Rays tickets offers an opportunity of fans of the Wild Card round winner to see ALDS Games 1 and 2.
It’s no secret that the Tampa Bay Rays have one of the most undeserving fanbases in the league.
While the Rays were racking up wins that would put them at a distant 100-62 lead in the AL East, fans only dwindled at Tropicana Stadium.
Back in September, the top-ranked team drew only 5,460 fans in a Monday night game against the Baltimore Orioles. FanSided’s Alicia de Artola reported that this was the Rays’ “lowest attendance at Tropicana Field without COVID-19 restrictions in place.”
If Rays fans won’t come out to support their team, perhaps Yankees or Red Sox fans will. Tampa Bay Times Rays reporter Mark Topkin points out the golden opportunity for the victorious fanbase in the AL Wild Card round.
Absence of rays fans provides more room for the fans of the eventual AL Wild Card winner
On the Rays website, tickets are available for purchase for ALDS Games 1, 2 and 5, which offers eager baseball fans a front-row seat to the playoff action.
The Red Sox are no stranger to deep playoff runs, winning the 2018 World Series agains the Los Angeles Dodgers. Neither are the Yankees, the MLB team with the most championships at 27, but they lost last year in the AL Divisional Round to none other than the Rays. The Rays went on to compete in the 2020 World Series only to lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Still, for a team formed in 1998, the Rays have quickly risen to become one of the MLB’s top teams in recent years. Unfortunately, the fan base doesn’t reflect that — not even after an incredible 2020 season.
