3. San Francisco 49ers are thin at corner in a division with Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford and Russell Wilson

Once again, the dreaded injury bug hit the 49ers. And it hit hard. The team let Richard Sherman walk in the offseason and lost Jason Verrett to a season-ending injury earlier this season. They’re now dangerously thin at cornerback and stuck in the toughest division in the NFL. So far, they’re sitting last in the NFC West with a 2-2 record after losing to the Seattle Seahawks and face the undefeated Arizona Cardinals next.

The West is stacked with a plethora of game-changing wide receivers, and if the 49ers don’t add some depth and starting talent at cornerback, they could suffer. Defensive coordinator, DeMeco Ryans, has a lot of talent in his front seven, led by Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, and the secondary has performed adequately this season, but another injury could put them in real peril.

If Gilmore joins the 49ers, he immediately becomes the team’s number one option outside and could cover the likes of DeAndre Hopkins, Cooper Kupp, and DK Metcalf on a weekly basis. All three receivers have a varying set of skills, but Gilmore has the versatility to cover all three.
