The college football rankings will shift thanks to the Oklahoma Sooners’ unbelievable comeback victory over the Texas Longhorns.

The Red River Showdown always delivers. This year, the annual rivalry game between Oklahoma and Texas saw the Longhorns take command early before the Sooners stormed back for a victory sealed in the final seconds.

What does that mean for Oklahoma’s ranking? They went into the game at No. 6 in the AP poll and they should only expect to rise.

Since one of Penn State or Iowa will lose this week, Oklahoma can look forward to a Top 5 ranking. However, the nature of their comeback is likely to keep them behind Cincinnatti, who easily dispatched Temple on Friday.

After Ohio State’s blowout of Maryland, the Buckeyes could be in range to jump the Sooners, if voters want to punish them for falling behind to Texas in the first place.

Projected college football rankings

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Iowa
  4. Cincinnati
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Ohio State
  7. Oregon
  8. Michigan
  9. BYU
  10. Michigan State

As for Texas, the former No. 21 team will inevitably drop out of the rankings with their second loss of the season.

It may have been impressive the way they dominated Oklahoma early, but the collapse late was embarrassing.
