4. Top fantasy football pickups for Week 6 – New York Giants RB Devontae Booker

The injury bug has struck a big-time running back again and fantasy football owners may be scrambling. Saquon Barkley, a popular first-round pick in most fantasy drafts, suffered a potentially severe ankle injury against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 that required him to be carted off the field.

This is a brutal blow for Barkley, who looked like he was finally starting to recapture his old form after missing almost all of the 2020 campaign after tearing his ACL in Week 2. If this ankle issue sidelines Barkley for a lengthy period of time it will make his backup a top priority pickup.

That man is Devontae Booker, who signed on in the offseason to replace Wayne Gallman as the Giants’ no. 2 running back. Booker is nowhere near as talented as Barkley but he is the best in-house option with NFL experience, which is important since New York suffered a rash of injuries in this game.

Rostered in just five percent of Yahoo leagues, Booker will be the pickup of the week if Barkley misses significant time. The uncertainty in Barkley’s status is the only reason that Booker ranks fourth right now but he can be an immediate starter for fantasy owners who need help in the backfield.
