College football upset pick Week 7, No. 3: Arkansas Razorbacks

Rank: 17 | Opponent: Auburn Tigers | Time: Saturday, Oct. 16, Noon ET

Hats off to the AP voters for basically flip-flopping Arkansas and Ole Miss after the latter got the win thanks to the Razorbacks not converting a two-point conversion to win in the final moments. That’s not a bad loss for the Hogs and they are clearly still a top-20 team on the season. Unfortunately, that could change after this week as Auburn comes to Fayetteville.

Both of these teams can attest to how good Georgia is after the Bulldogs beat the brakes off of the Razorbacks and Tigers in back-to-back weeks. But it’s what Arkansas looked like in that game and then against Ole Miss that has me a bit worried about their chances against a still frisky but not great Auburn team.

While the Rebels offense moved the ball any way they pleased, the Arkansas run defense looked pretty bad throughout the game. My faith in Bo Nix remains eternally wavering but Auburn can turn and hand the ball to Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter routinely and with effectiveness. That could be a real problem for the Razorbacks offense.

Furthermore, the Tigers defense falls somewhere between Georgia and Ole Miss, which could limit the effectiveness of KJ Jefferson and the Arkansas offense. If that happens with the Tigers controlling the game on the ground, that’s going to put the Hogs in real danger of losing three consecutive games after their dream start to the year.
