College football upset picks Week 7: Georgia and 5 teams on upset alert
College football upset pick Week 7, No. 2: Arizona State Sun Devils
Rank: 18 | Opponent: at Utah Utes | Time: Saturday, Oct. 16, 10 p.m. ET
The nightcap for Saturday in Week 7 in terms of ranked games, Arizona State has continued to impress. Herm Edwards’ team has only lost to BYU on the year but has reeled off some impressive wins over UCLA and Stanford, the latter being a tricky spot and a matchup in which Edwards has struggled in recent years.
With that being said, a trip to Utah is never easy, especially with the sneaky truth that the Utes have looked far more dangerous since Cameron Rising took over at quarterback and has gotten fully integrated in the offense, most recently throwing for 306 yards and three touchdowns in a drubbing at USC.
That doesn’t bode well for the Sun Devils in this game given their circumstances. Arizona State’s defense has been fantastic this year but they come into Week 7 potentially without two starting defensive backs. Though they have talent on the depth chart, the fact that they are at a disadvantage against a growing strength for Utah is not great.
On top of that, the truth of the matter is that ASU still feels like it’s due for a letdown game offensively. Jayden Daniels is still not a reliable passer from game to game and, if Utah can throw it well, that could put the Sun Devils in a tricky spot that they might not be able to climb out of.
