The Jets will rely solely on Zach Wilson

The Jets have one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL. At just 74 yards per game, New York has the 31st ranked ground attack in football. This is a large reason for Wilson’s inconsistencies. The Jets rely far too much on their rookie quarterback to be their entire offense.

Wilson has shown that he can make plays against Tennessee, and briefly in the second half against Carolina. The lack of diversity, though, has plagued their offense. It forces Wilson to take more chances, which has often led to mistakes and turnovers.

New England’s defense was responsible for the Wilson’s worst performance in his young career. The four interceptions in Week 2 aren’t who he is, but it’s what the Jets offense have put on themselves with the lack of balance.

Michael Carter hasn’t been as effective as they were hoping. The Jets have also dealt with injuries up front to star tackle Mekhi Becton. They rebuilt the offensive line in the offseason, and it was much needed. Sam Darnold spent 2020 running for his life, and they didn’t want Wilson to suffer that same fate.

New England’s secondary is good. JC Jackson had a field day in Week 2. If the Jets don’t want Week 7 to be a rinse and repeat situation from Week 2, they need to keep at it with the run game. Not every run is going to be a chunk play.

If they can get any resemblance of balance offensively, that will take the pressure off Wilson. If not, expect turnovers and another long day for the Jets.
