Max Johnson eventually gave way to Garrett Nussmeier vs. Ole Miss for LSU

The LSU Tigers may have been up against it at the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, but Max Johnson’s ball security issues were a huge reason why the Bayou Bengals fell to 4-4 on the year. He had one interception and three fumbles, two of which the Ole Miss Landshark defense did recover. Johnson was eventually pulled from the game in favor of the four-star freshman Garrett Nussmeier.

This was Nussmeier’s first extended action at LSU, and he played pretty well. He completed 7-of-12 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. While it was clearly garbage time in Oxford, it was nice to see Nussmeier get some work in a meaningless game for the Tigers. Everything will change in Baton Rouge with the new coaching staff, but Nussmeier might play some more down the stretch.

D.J. Uiagalelei got benched in favor of Taisun Phommachanh vs. Pitt for Clemson

So sorry, it’s over, but it is. The Clemson Tigers have cratered to 4-3 on the season with D.J. Uiagalelei at quarterback. While it is not all his fault, it is abundantly clear he is not the second-coming of Trevor Lawrence or Deshaun Watson at Clemson. He was benched in favor of Taisun Phommachanh in a bad loss vs. Pitt. Uiagalelei may be on the verge of transferring this offseason.

On the afternoon, he only completed 12-of-25 passes for 128 yards and two interceptions. Though he did have 50 yards and a rushing touchdown on eight carries, one would think at this point of the season the game would start to slow down for the former five-star quarterback from California. Even if Georgia, NC State and Pitt are tough, he plays at an elite program like Clemson!
