3. He gives Lucas Moura too much influence

Lucas will always have a special place in the hearts of Tottenham fans due to his Champions League heroics at Ajax. That doesn’t mean he should be a nailed-on member of the team’s starting XI this season.

Nuno clearly hasn’t gotten that memo. The Brazilian attacker is regularly one of the first names on Tottenham’s team sheet. The idea is that Lucas has the dribbling ability required to help the Spurs’ attack break into the final third and create scoring chances.

The problem with that logic is that Lucas is not Tottenham’s equivalent of Adama Traore. He’s quick enough to lead a defender or two in his dust, but he consistently loses the ball when he tries to take on the entire backline on his own.

Nuno’s maddening willingness to stick with Lucas as he persists with this strategy is a big reason why Tottenham cannot keep possession in the opposing half of the pitch. It’s also a big reason why he needs to be fired immediately.
