College football upset pick Week 9, No. 4: Pittsburgh Panthers

Rank: 17 | Opponent: vs. Miami | Time: Saturday, Oct. 30, 12 p.m. ET

The Pitt Panthers are one of the few teams that are thriving in the ACC this season. It’s been a down year for the traditional powerhouses like Clemson and North Carolina, so that is opening the door for Pitt to come in and win the ACC for the first time since joining the conference back in 2013. They made it to one ACC Title Game before, but they lost to maybe Clemson’s best team in 2018.

The Miami Hurricanes are having a dreadful season. Manny Diaz seems like a dead man walking as head coach, but they showed grit in their win against then-18th ranked NC State last week. The Hurricanes are 1-2 in the ACC this season, but they lost very close games to the Tar Heels and Virginia Cavaliers. They are without their starting quarterback D’Eriq King and they announced starting safety Bubba Bolden is out for the season, but there is still talent up and down the depth chart.

Pitt has been able to do whatever they want on offense this season. They are scoring north of 45 points per game. Meanwhile, Miami is second to last in the ACC in points allowed, but that does include a season-opening loss to Alabama and a dogfight with North Carolina. Miami has shown they can keep up with other teams in the ACC, and they will do the same for Pitt. There’s a lot of hype around the Panthers after beating Clemson, but that team isn’t very good. Pitt will listen to the hype a little too much, and it will lead to their downfall.
