Jose Altuve makes more postseason history with latest home run (Video)

Houston Astros star Jose Altuve continues to make history, this time with yet another impressive home run.

Very few MLB players will ever get the opportunity to hit a home run in the postseason. Even fewer will have the chance to make history by hitting home runs in the postseason consistently throughout their career.

Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is working on doing that. And he’s doing a really good job with it.

In Game 2 of the 2021 World Series, the Atlanta Braves put Drew Smyly on the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning. With Altuve up to bat, Smyly threw a fairly ill-advised pitch that quickly turned into a home run for Houston’s star. Altuve launched the first pitch he saw into the Crawford Boxes.

That home run moved Altuve into a tie for second on the postseason home runs list. Altuve and Bernie Williams each have 22 career home runs in the postseason.

While many try to find fault with him for Houston’s sign-stealing scandal from the 2017 season when Houston won the World Series (although there’s surprisingly little evidence to actually indicate he was involved), Atluve has become a legend with the Astros. He’s endeared in Houston and his consistently impressive play is one reason why.

Depending on how the rest of his career goes, there’s a very real chance that Altuve could very well go down as one of the most impressive players in MLB postseason history. Some would make the argument that he’s already one of the most impressive players the postseason has ever seen.

Whether or not folks outside of Houston would like to recognize that is a completely different subject.

He’s been a key figure in helping the Astros rebuild from being one of the worst teams in all of baseball. He’s been important to Houston as the Astros have made it back to the World Series for the third time in five seasons. Now he’s continuing to make postseason history.
