Projected college football rankings after Michigan State beat Michigan, Iowa upset
By John Buhler
Projected college football rankings after Michigan State completed the comeback to beat Michigan and Iowa is upset by Wisconsin.
The No. 8 Michigan State Spartans won the signature game of the early-afternoon window by handing the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines their first loss of the year in dramatic fashion, 37-33.
Propelled by Heisman Trophy contending running back Kenneth Walker III, the Spartans improved to 8-0 on the year and are very much a real threat to win the Big Ten this season. While many people were paying attention to what happened in East Lansing, the unranked Wisconsin Badgers handed the reeling No. 9 Iowa Hawkeyes their second loss of the season over in Madison, 27-7.
Here is what the top 10 of the next AP Top 25 poll could look like after the early-afternoon games.
Projected college football rankings for Week 10
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Cincinnati Bearcats
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- Oklahoma Sooners
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Michigan State Spartans
- Oregon Ducks
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Michigan Wolverines
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Unless something massive happens in the latter part of the Week 9 slate, the top five is not expected to change. It should be Georgia, Cincinnati, Alabama, Oklahoma and Ohio State, probably in that order.
Moving up to No. 6 will be Michigan State, although the Spartans may potentially get into the top five. Oregon, Ole Miss, Michigan is now at No. 9 and Notre Dame rounds out the top 10.
The gap between the Spartans and the Buckeyes looks to be razor-thin at best right about now.
